He believed that his father could help him.
He knew that he did not earn or deserve any good treatment from the father.
He chose to repent and confess his faults to his father.

Older Son’s response

The older son did not recognize the need for restoration as he did not recognize the need for a true relationship with the father.

The Father’s response to the younger son

The father loved and accepted the younger son just as he was. He was filled with compassion and made a great feast. He did not ask his younger son to pay back anything.

The Father’s response to the older son

The father loved the older son and missed having a real relationship with him. The father was waiting for the older son to come back to him.

APPROACH

How can we ever approach a Haevenly Father who is perfect? One Person solved this dilemma for all humanity when He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” If Jesus was just another good man, a great teacher or a prophet He couldn’t have said that. Jesus Christ is infinite. The Bible clearly states that He is the image of invisible God.

Jesus came to earth and lived among us without sin. He died on the cross to pay the penalty of your sins. He restored your relationship with your Heavenly Father. For by Him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether they are kings, lords, rulers, or powers. All things have been created through Him and for Him (Col 1:16).

Faith is not…

Believing certain historical facts about God and the Bible. This is mere intellectual assent. The Bible says that even the demons believe in God but they do not get a second chance to be saved. Believing God during during a financial, family, or physical crisis is temporal faith. The younger son’s faith was not just to escape from his current crisis.

The right Faith is …

Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation based on what He as done to get us into heaven. The life you live thereafter is not trusting in your strength but on His. This is the essence of Biblical faith. The younger son desired to be restored back to his father once and for all.

What Is In It For Me?

“All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned, every, one, to his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all.”(Isaiah 53:6). All of us wandered away from the Father and pursued our own ways. It is the default setting of the broken world we live in that came about as a result of sin. God is perfect. He hates sin. He also understands our helpless condition. He loves us. He sent His only Son to bear the punishment of our trespasses. Christ bore our sin on His body on the cross so that you can be pardoned freely through His death. He is the only person to overcome death to guarantee you eternal life. Start to know Him today!
